Welkom

Ghent, the historic capital of the Counts of Flanders, lies on the ba nks of the Schelde.

It has similarities with Bruges but the atmosphere is quite different.

The historic heart reminds of the city grandeur when it was the centre of the linnen industry.

(1) As a non-member you can also acquire your membership through the special introductory offer. You will be allowed a stay at a hostel without a membership card. Instead you’ll receive a guest membership card and pay a supplement per overnight stay. In exchange you’ll get a “Welcome Stamp” on your guest card. Once you have 6 stamps on your card you’ll have acquired a valid international membership and you’ll enjoy the normal tariffs. 
Mind you, it’ll be much cheaper if you become a HI-member, in which case you’ll get a discount voucher as well. Keep in mind that in some countries the supplement for a “Welcome Stamp” is more expensive than in Flanders.

  • Children discounts for families.

    • Children under 3 stay free.

    • Children under 12 get a discount of ±20% for bed and breakfast and meals when accompanied by at least one adult.

  • Group tariffs are the same as the individual adult tariff.

    • groups must be in possession of a group membership card. 

    • Every 16th person of a group stays free (possession of a group membership card and half pension required).

Travel Guide

Car:

On the highway you take exit “Gent-Centrum” and immediately afterwards, you follow the signs “andere richtingen”. At the traffic lights, you turn right and follow the ringroad in the direction of Gent Dampoort. At the Dampoort roundabout, you follow the signs to Eeklo. At the first proper traffic lights, you turn left into Sint Salvatorstraat, a street with tramtracks. You follow the tramtracks until the end of Lange Steenstraat. At a certain point, you will see a tramstop in the middle of the street (you have to pass to the right of the tramstop). Here, you turn right into Sint Margrietstraat. Then you take the first street to the left (Academiestraat), and at the end you go over the small bridge and immediately to the left, into Lievekaai. At the end of Lievekaai you will see us at the right corner (Sint Widostraat nr 11).
